Modern with Historic

Neighborhood Fit

Many modern houses are built in historic neighborhoods. Some contrast well but many stick out like a sore thumb. In this renovation we integrate modern with historic by using the materials, proportions, and similiarities of the surrounding neighborhood while introducing some modern elements. Different alternatives were studied from more conservative rectilinear to organic. The client selected the curved roof alternative which still fit the conetext of the neighborhood. The curve was also inspired by the fact that it fit perfectly into the City of Denver bulk plane ordinance. So form does follow function here. The roof top deck takes advantage of the high property values and shortage of outdoor space on small city lots.
